Hey kids! You all must have heard about the menace of
pollution, but do you really know what it is?
Well, there is not just one kind of pollution.
Pollution has various forms such as air pollution,
water pollution and noise pollution. An attribute that
is common in all kinds of pollution is that these are
harmful to human beings and the environment as a whole.
Air Pollution: Air pollution is caused by the release
of harmful gases and chemicals into our atmosphere.
Many things we do in our daily lives contribute to
air pollution. When we burn fuel such as petroleum
while riding our cars, harmful gasses such as carbon
dioxide and nitrous oxide are released into the air.
Have you ever seen a rickshaw blowing lots of dirty
smoke on the road? That smoke not only smells bad and
makes you cough; it is also very harmful for the environment
because it contains harmful gases.
Water Pollution: Water pollution also affects us in
many ways. Firstly, harmful chemicals released from
the ship's fuel and other water vehicles contaminate
water and cause harm to marine life. Often, factories
dump its wastes into lakes and rivers causing damage
to the habitat of countless forms of marine life. Do
you like going to the beach? Oh come on! Everyone loves
the beach! But while enjoying the nature's gifts
to us, we should also care for them. Often, people
go to the beach and leave garbage behind. Sometimes,
they even throw it directly into the sea. This way
water becomes polluted and harmful for the marine life.
So, the next time you go to the beach and see someone
littering, ask him/her to KINDLY THROW INTO A GARBAGE
BIN! By doing this, you will be helping improve your
environment.
Noise Pollution: This
form of pollution is often not given much importance
since its harmful effects are
not as visible as in the case of air and water pollution.
However, noise pollution is a serious issue and needs
to be dealt with. Noise pollution is becoming very
common all over the world with more and more cars on
the road every day and people demanding bigger, better
sound systems to blast music. We seem to be obsessed
with constructing more and more buildings which is
a pretty noisy affair. In densely populated urban cities
like Karachi and Bombay, noise pollution reaches its
peak during the peak driving hours when thousands of
vehicles cram the limited roads and begin a honking
affair. Psychological research has already proved that
constant exposure to noise causes mental damage. So
the next time you see someone listening to music on
high volume or unnecessarily honking on the road, ask
them to kindly refrain from causing noise pollution
as it affects mental health.
